Maharam was founded in New York City in 1902 by Louis Maharam, a Russian immigrant. First renowned as a supplier of theatrical textiles for costume and set design in the 1940s, Maharam became a pioneer of the contract textile industry in the 1960s through the development of performance-driven products for commercial interiors.
Today Maharam is recognized for its rigorous and holistic commitment to design as a leading provider of textiles to architects and interior designers. We embrace a range of disciplines from product, graphic, and digital design to art and architecture.
Maharam’s January 2022 introduction webpage is now live and includes a video of Hella Jongerius inside her exhibition Woven Cosmos.

The Maharam Design Studio’s “M series” collection consists of multipurpose textiles with reduced environmental impact, available in over 400 colors. Deceptively simple, this expansive collection of solids represents one of the Maharam Design Studio’s greatest strengths: infusing elevated aesthetics into high-performance textiles at a practical price point. The M series offers recycled content and resistance to staining and abrasion.
